Central Revenue Leakage Control Committee Meeting: Decision to Achieve Revenue Collection Target by Curbing Leakages

Kathmandu: The Central Revenue Leakage Control Committee has resolved to meet the revenue collection target for the current fiscal year by controlling revenue leakages and expanding tax-friendly services. The decision was made during a meeting held at the Ministry of Finance, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, with Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and heads of various key agencies involved in revenue collection in attendance.

The committee decided that the performance evaluation of employees and security personnel involved in revenue administration would be significantly based on their contribution to achieving the revenue targets. To strengthen revenue leakage control, the committee also decided to form a central rapid patrol team, which will be deployed from the eastern to the western regions of the country.

The meeting emphasized the implementation of a systematic action plan for controlling revenue leakages while ensuring that taxpayers engaged in lawful transactions are not unduly harassed. It was also decided that no leniency would be shown towards individuals involved in illegal economic activities.

Furthermore, the committee decided to enhance effective coordination between various agencies under the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Home Affairs to combat revenue leakages.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel underscored that no one involved in revenue leakage would be spared. He directed that the postings of employees and police officers associated with revenue administration be rotated to prevent the formation of inappropriate relationships that could arise from long-term assignments at the same post.

Finance Minister Paudel also instructed the use of modern technology, including scanners at border checkpoints, to enhance monitoring, ensure accurate classification and valuation of imported goods, promote the issuance and receipt of invoices in the market, and rigorously investigate potential revenue leakages through fake invoices or shell companies. He expressed confidence that the steps taken by the revenue administration and security personnel would significantly improve the quality of operations.

Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak assured full support from the Ministry of Home Affairs in controlling revenue leakages and achieving revenue targets. He also urged the public to be encouraged to pay their taxes.

The meeting included participation from the Finance Secretary, Revenue Secretary, Directors General of the Inland Revenue Department, Customs Department, Department of Revenue Investigation, Department of Money Laundering Investigation, National Investigation Department, Nepal Police, and the Armed Police Force, among others. The officials committed to improving the exchange of information and enhancing coordination to effectively control revenue leakages.
