Bhaktapur: Minister for Social Development of Bagmati Province, Hariprabha Khadgi, emphasized the need for free healthcare and education to eliminate corruption in society. Speaking at the 101st anniversary celebration of Shri Padma Secondary School, she stated that the root cause of corruption is closely linked to the high costs of healthcare and education. According to her, the desire to send children to expensive schools and the struggle for affordable healthcare have led to the growth of corruption. She further highlighted that the Bagmati Province government is working towards providing free education as a solution to this issue.
Minister Khadgi stated, “It is the pen and books that determine the future, which is why we are striving to make education free.”
She also mentioned that a new program, “Learn and Earn,” is being introduced, aimed at supporting students to pursue education while simultaneously gaining work experience. “Nepali students are no longer bound by the financial constraints of asking their parents for money. Now, students can earn on their own and fund their education,” Khadgi added.
The minister also discussed efforts to develop regional universities and improve the functioning of local colleges in Bagmati Province.
In the same event, Bagmati Provincial Assembly member Suresh Shrestha emphasized that community school reforms are essential for achieving a fully educated society. He noted that trust in both public and community schools, as well as teachers, has diminished, leading to a negative outlook on the education system.
Shrestha praised the community schools in Bhaktapur for being among the best in the region and stressed the importance of continued efforts to sustain their progress.
The event was attended by former State Minister of Bagmati Province, Rajani Jonche Amatya, former chairperson of the school management committee, Tilak Prakash Kayastha, Ananta Dhaundel, and the school’s principal, Ram Hada, among others. The program was chaired by Baburao Joshi, the chairman of the school management committee.
Long-serving teachers and staff of the school were also honored during the program, which included the distribution of scholarships in various categories. Exceptional students, athletes, and others were recognized for their achievements.
