Nepali Peacekeepers Deployed and Rotated in South Sudan and Iraq Missions

Kathmandu, January 24— A fresh team of Nepali peacekeepers has been deployed to South Sudan and Iraq under the United Nations’ call for global peacekeeping efforts.

A contingent of 213 Nepali peacekeepers from the 11th Battalion of Shree Chandi Prasad (Peacekeeping Force) departed for the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) on Magh 10. Led by Major Manoj Karki, the team will replace the 10th Battalion of Shree Aridaman (Peacekeeping Force), which has completed its tenure.

Simultaneously, 212 peacekeepers from the outgoing battalion, led by Major Khim Bahadur Adhikari, returned to Nepal on the same day after successfully completing their mission.

Currently, the Nepali Army has 1,754 personnel serving in the South Sudan mission, including sector commanders, military observers, staff officers, and two full battalions along with a company-level unit.

Similarly, in response to the United Nations’ call, 21 Nepali peacekeepers from Guard Unit-XIV (A), led by Major Himalaya Thapa, were deployed to the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) on Magh 9. They will replace Guard Unit-XIII (A), which completed its mission.

On Magh 10, 21 peacekeepers from the outgoing Guard Unit-XIII (A) returned to Nepal after their successful tenure in Iraq. Currently, 88 Nepali peacekeepers are serving in this mission.

Nepali peacekeepers continue to uphold their commitment to global peace and security through their exemplary service in United Nations missions worldwide.
