Kathmandu. In a significant development, Nepal and India have officially entered into a long-term agreement for the export of electricity. The memorandum of understanding, signed by the respective secretaries in the presence of Minister Shakti Bahadur Basnet, solidifies the commitment to trade 10,000 megawatts of electricity over the next decade.
The signing ceremony, held at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, marks the realization of a key milestone established during Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachand’s visit to India last May. Prime Minister Narendra Modi affirmed the commitment to long-term energy collaboration between the two nations, emphasizing the bilateral nature of the agreement.
This move signifies a crucial step towards regional energy cooperation, fostering mutual benefit and sustainable development. The bilateral agreement, signed by Nepal’s Secretary Gopal Sigdel and India’s Energy Secretary Pankaj Agarwal, sets the stage for enhanced economic ties and paves the way for a more interconnected South Asian power grid.
