Kathmandu: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) is reconnecting power lines for 24 industries, each with outstanding dues exceeding NPR 50 million. The decision, made during the 960th meeting of the NEA Executive Committee chaired by Minister Shakti Bahadur Basnet, aims to ensure an uninterrupted power supply while awaiting a final government decision.
The NEA Executive Committee, in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, directed the NEA management to reconnect the power lines of industries with outstanding dues, ensuring a continuous power supply until a final decision is made by the government.
This decision was reached following a report submitted by the Inquiry Commission, led by former Supreme Court Justice Girish Chandra Lal. The commission was formed by the government to investigate and resolve disputes related to outstanding dues between the NEA and industries.
The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, along with the Ministry of Industry, jointly established the Inquiry Commission to mediate between the NEA and the concerned industries. The decision to form the commission was made during the Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday.
The NEA Executive Committee’s decision reflects an effort to facilitate a smooth power supply, promote revenue collection, and foster a cooperative environment between the NEA and the industries involved.
