Kathmandu: Prakashman Singh, a prominent leader of the Nepali Congress, emphasized the need for the government to control the depletion of groundwater resources. Reflecting on the past contributions of the late Kishun Prasad Bhattarai, the former Prime Minister and party president, Singh underscored the importance of resolving the growing issue of groundwater depletion.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Melamchi Drinking Water Distribution Program in Singha Durbar on Monday, Singh acknowledged the commencement of water distribution but urged the government to address the nationwide water crisis promptly. He stated, “Melamchi’s drinking water project is a lesson for us all. We need to improve. The project alone won’t suffice; we must pay attention to its management and complete tasks on time.”
Singh continued, “This isn’t just about Kathmandu; it’s about managing water resources nationwide. We’ve expanded ground extraction, and now the government must focus on this. This is not just an inauguration; it’s a re-distribution, and we must learn from it.”
Highlighting the lessons learned from the Melamchi Drinking Water Project, Singh urged the government to enhance its management and ensure timely completion. He concluded, “Prime Minister, this isn’t limited to Kathmandu; it’s about the widespread extraction of ground water. The government must pay special attention. This is about re-distribution, not just inauguration.”
