Nepali Congress Leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala Accuses Prime Minister Dahal of Devaluing Martyrs’ Sacrifice

Kathmandu: Nepali Congress leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala, initiating the Congress campaign in Biratnagar, has alleged that Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal is involved in activities devaluing the sacrifice of martyrs.

Addressing a gathering that marked the beginning of the Congress campaign in the community on Tuesday, Leader Koirala stated that the devaluation of martyrs’ sacrifice was carried out by Prime Minister Dahal at the behest of the democratic republic. He emphasized that the actual definition of martyrs should be acknowledged, and true homage should be paid on Martyrs’ Day.

Koirala commented, “On Martyrs’ Day, we did not see any initiative from the Prime Minister to truly honor the martyrs. It is essential to focus on this matter.” He further added, “By increasing the number of martyrs without genuine acknowledgment, it is an insult to the martyrs.”

Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal had announced the recognition of around 3,000 additional martyrs during a program held on Magh 13 in Kathmandu. In response to this, Leader Koirala urged for attention to the real definition of martyrs and genuine homage on Martyrs’ Day.

Moreover, during the program, Koirala addressed the Congress community, expressing concern about the increasing dissent within the party. He urged unity before progressing ahead. Koirala, by emphasizing the need for a united front, aimed to address the weaknesses observed at the community level.

He also highlighted the commendable work done by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City in ensuring clean drinking water to the public. He praised the efforts of the city in effectively expanding pure drinking water services to the public, citing a collaborative effort with a Japanese aid organization to replace old pipes and install new ones.

Furthermore, Koirala inquired about the challenges related to the embankment of the Sunkoshi and Singiya rivers. He informed the community about the state government’s plan to construct a corridor in this area and urged patience as significant budget and time would be required for the project’s completion.
