Kathmandu: The National Planning Commission (NPC) has engaged in discussions with international development partners regarding the 16th development plan and strategies for uplifting Nepal from the category of Least Developed Countries (LDC). The Vice-Chairman of the NPC, Dr. Min Bahadur Shrestha, chaired the meeting on Tuesday, which included representatives from the United Nations, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, and various ambassadors and delegates from different countries.
The NPC has been preparing for the 16th development plan over the next five years, seeking suggestions from experts in various fields and stakeholders. The discussions on Tuesday also involved representatives from the United Nations Development Programme and the Finnish Embassy, highlighting their expertise in development transitions.
During the meeting, Hana Singer Handy, the Resident Representative of the United Nations in Nepal, and the Finnish Ambassador for Nepal emphasized the importance of positive contributions from international development partners to help Nepal achieve its developmental milestones. They commended the efforts of the NPC in preparing for the 16th plan and transitioning from the status of LDC.
Dr. Shrestha expressed gratitude for the valuable suggestions and commitment from international partners. He mentioned that the 16th plan is being developed with a focus on a smooth transition strategy from LDC status and inclusive development. The NPC is keen on involving international collaboration to enhance the effectiveness of the development initiatives outlined in the plan.
This engagement follows the NPC’s previous discussions on the 16th plan with newly appointed members of the National Development Council. The commitment to international collaboration and support for Nepal’s developmental endeavors has been echoed in various meetings, highlighting the country’s dedication to achieving sustainable and inclusive growth.
