Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has asserted that the outdated practice of using informants (ghumuwas) for gathering information is no longer effective in maintaining law and order. Speaking at the inauguration of the newly constructed building of the Kathmandu District Police Office, PM Oli emphasized that the police should focus on preventing crimes rather than merely investigating them after they occur.
“Keeping informants in the police force is an old practice. This method can no longer control crime,” PM Oli stated. “The police should not be active only after a crime happens but should work towards preventing crimes altogether. People should feel that they will be caught by the police even before committing a crime.”
PM Oli also reassured the police organization that the government does not give directives aimed at entrapping specific individuals and encouraged them to carry out their duties lawfully without any fear. “This government does not give unnecessary instructions to entrap anyone. No innocent person should be falsely accused, and such attempts should not be made by anyone. The police are free to work in accordance with the law. Perform your duties with confidence,” he added.
