Kathmandu: Qatari investors have expressed strong interest in exploring investment opportunities in Nepal across several sectors, including IT, pharmaceuticals, banking, financial services, hydropower, and tourism.
“We are looking for investment opportunities in Nepal and will encourage more investors to explore its potential,” said Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Thani, Chairman of the Qatar Chamber of Commerce, during the inaugural meeting of the Nepal-Qatar Business Council held in Doha on Wednesday. The meeting was attended by a delegation from the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), led by its President, Chandra Prasad Dhakal.
This first official meeting at the chairman level of the Business Council followed the state visit of Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani to Nepal on April 23 and 24, during which an agreement was signed to establish the Council. The FNCCI and Qatar Chamber agreed to appoint members under their leadership to complete the Council’s formation soon.
During the meeting, Dhakal proposed hosting a Qatar-Nepal Business Summit in Nepal to further strengthen economic ties, a proposal that was welcomed by the Qatari side. Both parties agreed to organize the event next year.
FNCCI President Dhakal highlighted Nepal’s economic stability and the legal reforms that have created a favorable environment for foreign investment. He invited Qatari investors to explore opportunities in Nepal’s hydropower, tourism, IT, and skill development sectors. Dhakal also participated in the Asian Cooperation Dialogue hosted by the Qatari government, representing Nepal’s private sector.
This growing collaboration marks a significant step in expanding bilateral economic relations between Nepal and Qatar.
