President Appoints Prakashman Singh Raut as Chief Justice of Nepal

Kathmandu: The Office of the President has announced that President Ram Chandra Paudel has appointed Justice Prakashman Singh Raut as the Chief Justice of Nepal. The appointment was made in accordance with Article 129(2) of the Constitution of Nepal, following the recommendation of the Constitutional Council.

The official announcement was made on Sunday, October 6, 2024. Justice Raut will now assume the role of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal.

Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, was born in 31st March 1961 in Udayapur, Nepal. He was appointed as a Supreme Court Justice on 1st August 2016 by the President of Nepal. Justice Raut holds Bachelor Degree in Law from Nepal Law Campus, Tribhuvan University, Nepal. From 1983 to 2016, he worked as an advocate and senior advocate in the Supreme Court of Nepal. His expertise as an advocate and senior advocate was especially in civil, criminal, constitutional cases and writs. Furthermore, he served as a legal advisor in various public corporations and private institutions. He had also worked as a coordinator of the Constitutional Committee in Nepal Bar Association. In 2006, he became the president of the Supreme Court Bar Association.
