Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called a Cabinet meeting for today at 5 PM, according to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat. Although the regular meeting was scheduled for Monday, it was postponed to Tuesday due to the Prime Minister’s busy schedule.
The meeting will reportedly discuss PM Oli’s upcoming visit to China, planned for the first week of December. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already initiated preparations for the visit.
Another key agenda for today’s meeting is the situation involving Kulman Ghising, the Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). Ghising recently disconnected the dedicated trunk lines of 32 industries for failing to pay outstanding dues.
Despite directives from PM Oli and Energy Minister Deepak Khadka, Ghising has remained firm on his decision, insisting that industries must clear their overdue payments. Business owners, in turn, argue that the dues are incorrectly billed. Minister Khadka has expressed concerns that Ghising’s actions reflect defiance of government orders, and today’s meeting is expected to deliberate on this issue.
The outcomes of the meeting are likely to shape the government’s stance on Ghising’s decisions and preparations for the Prime Minister’s China visit.
