Kathmandu: Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel returned to Nepal today after attending the annual meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the United States. He was welcomed at Tribhuvan International Airport by Revenue Secretary Dinesh Kumar Ghimire.
During the meetings, Minister Paudel advocated for a streamlined and accessible system for mobilizing global climate finance funds, urging the international community to support efficient aid deployment in the climate finance sector. He also called on development partners and the international community to uphold climate justice by responsibly and sensitively operating the Loss and Damage Fund established for climate justice and compensation.
Minister Paudel stated that the international community has responded positively to Nepal’s proposals on these issues. While in the U.S., he held separate discussions with senior officials from the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and International Finance Corporation, along with various bilateral and multilateral meetings.
Additionally, Minister Paudel addressed an event organized by the Nepalese Embassy and met with representatives from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and members of the Nepali community. He embarked on his U.S. visit on October 21.
