Significant Increase in Foreign Aid Commitments

Kathmandu: The Government of Nepal has witnessed a substantial increase in foreign aid commitments from development partners during the current fiscal year 2081/82. By the first week of December, Nepal had received new foreign aid commitments amounting to NPR 202.40 billion.

This marks a remarkable 237.5% rise compared to the NPR 59.98 billion pledged during the same period of the previous fiscal year, 2080/81, according to Mahesh Bhattarai, spokesperson for the Ministry of Finance. Bhattarai noted that commitments for foreign grants rose by 153.1%, while commitments for foreign loans surged by 280.6%.

In addition, the actual disbursement of foreign aid during the current fiscal year has also increased by 30.3% compared to the same period last year. The Ministry reported receiving NPR 44.08 billion in foreign aid, comprising NPR 6.75 billion in grants and NPR 37.33 billion in loans. These funds have been utilized for various development projects and construction activities across the country.

This substantial increase reflects the growing confidence of development partners in Nepal’s capacity to implement and manage aid-funded projects effectively.
