Empowered Women Take Charge: Finance Minister

Nuwakot — Finance Minister Dr. Prakasharan Mahat, in an inspiring address at the 4th Annual General Meeting of Thaprek Panchakanya Women’s Small Farmers Agricultural Cooperative Society, declared that the future of cooperatives lies in the capable hands of women. The event, held in Nuwakot Panchakanya-4, celebrated the success of the cooperative established by local women and sisters four years ago.

Minister Dr. Mahat expressed his optimism by stating that women, being more dedicated and focused on their responsibilities, play a pivotal role in the success of cooperatives. He acknowledged the commitment of women who, when entrusted with responsibilities, work tirelessly day and night to yield positive results.

The cooperative, founded to address small needs and facilitate savings, has become a financial lifeline for its members. Minister Dr. Mahat highlighted the importance of cooperatives in solving capital-related challenges faced by individuals striving to produce goods.

Reflecting on recent challenges faced by larger cooperatives, Dr. Mahat stressed the significance of smaller farmer cooperatives at the local level. These entities not only protect savings but also ensure transparent leadership, preventing misuse of funds by establishing a direct connection between members and leaders.

With the changing dynamics of rural life, where young people migrate to urban areas or abroad, the responsibility of managing households falls on women. Dr. Mahat emphasized the pivotal role of women, both inside and outside the home, and urged society to recognize and appreciate their contributions.

The Finance Minister underlined the growing interest of women in production, business, and entrepreneurship outside their homes. He urged for increased emphasis on supporting and encouraging women in their entrepreneurial pursuits.

In a forward-looking statement, Dr. Mahat envisioned that the development of village homes would progress under the capable leadership of women. He acknowledged the heightened interest and concern among women for actively participating in the development and construction work of their communities.

As the cooperative movement gains momentum, the Finance Minister’s words signal a positive shift towards empowering women to lead and contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of the region.
