Kathmandu: A major scandal has surfaced in Banepa as Nripesh Bade, the Chairman of Ward No. 9 in Banepa Municipality, is alleged to have solicited a bribe amounting to NPR 15,00,000 (Fifteen Lakhs). The accusation comes in light of an investigation conducted by the Commission for the Abuse of Authority (CIAA) following a tip-off.

The scandal unfolded when it was revealed that Wade had been demanding kickbacks from service recipients under the guise of recommending their proposals for consideration. The complaint, filed based on evidence collected by the CIAA team, indicated that the Chairman was involved in unauthorized and unethical practices.

In a coordinated operation, the CIAA team intercepted Wade today at his residence, where he was allegedly receiving the bribe.

The confiscated amount, equivalent to Japanese Yen 10,000 and USD 100, along with a Hyundai i10 car and the driver Padam Bahadur Pradhan, have been seized as evidence.

The operation was conducted in collaboration with local authorities, securing the arrest of Wade for further legal proceedings. The District Court in Bhaktapur, Thimi, has been briefed on the ongoing investigation.

Narhari Ghimire, the spokesperson for the CIAA, emphasized the commitment to upholding the principles of transparency and integrity. He stated that thorough investigations would be conducted to ensure that justice is served and that individuals involved in corrupt practices are held accountable.

The case adds to the growing concern over corruption within local government bodies, highlighting the need for rigorous scrutiny and preventive measures to maintain the trust and integrity of public service.
