Kathmandu: In a press note, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of Nepal outlined its brief report on actions taken against human rights violations. Following the directives of Regulation, Clause 40(a), the NHRC initiated public disclosure of decisions related to cases registered every six months.
The summary of activities conducted in the first six months of the current fiscal year (2079/80) includes details on 404 decisions made over 42 sessions concerning various human rights violations. Notably, 115 decisions were recommendations following investigations, while 76 were for legal and departmental actions.
The NHRC, established to address human rights abuses and provide relief to victims, revealed that it identified 358 individuals involved in human rights violations since its inception. Furthermore, the commission has forwarded recommendations amounting to approximately NPR 728 million for compensation and relief to 28 lakh 13 thousand 197 rupees.
The list of individuals implicated in human rights violations spans various sectors, including the police force, armed forces, and government officials. Notable figures include Yogeshwar Romkhani, Ramkumar Khanaal, and Narayankumar Acharya from the police force, Krishna Murari Nyupane and Surat Rawal from the army, and Inspector Liladhar Paudel from the National Investigation Department.
The NHRC emphasizes its commitment to addressing human rights abuses and seeks to improve the execution of recommendations for effective results. Despite challenges, the commission remains dedicated to safeguarding human rights in Nepal.
