Kathmandu: Nepal Police’s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) apprehended Arun Chaudhary on Thursday. The CIB has charged him with seizing 10 ropanees of government land, alleging involvement in the takeover of a bamboo and shoe factory site. The Chaudhary Group is accused of using government property, named CG Chandbag Residency, for personal ownership in connection to corruption and misuse of government land. The probe had faced resistance from authorities, but after overcoming obstacles, the CIB proceeded with the investigation.
Despite initial reluctance and resistance, the authorities pressed on with the investigation, ultimately resulting in the arrest of the industrialist. The misuse of power and corruption allegations prompted the intervention of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), which had initially faced challenges in probing the matter. However, following perseverance, the CIB was able to conduct a thorough investigation into the accusations.
It’s worth noting that Arun Chaudhary is not only a key figure in the business world but also holds familial ties to politics. He is the brother of Binod Chaudhary, a Member of Parliament affiliated with the Nepali Congress party. The arrest of such a prominent figure has sparked public interest, and further legal proceedings are expected as the investigation unfolds.
