Three-Day Extravaganza Declared for National Democracy Day Celebrations

Kathmandu: The government has decided to celebrate National Democracy Day, with grandeur. Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ the National Democracy Day Main Celebration Committee has decided to organize various programs from Falgun 6 to 8.

The committee has decided to produce, operate, and broadcast enlightening programs such as special dialogues, discussions, radio dramas, and publications of commemorative magazines by the national-level communication ministry to highlight the multifaceted dimensions of democracy. The committee also requested the publication of a compilation of various articles and writings to illuminate the bilateral aspects of democracy.

On the eve of National Democracy Day, all government offices, institutions, and private entities across the nation will display the national flag of prescribed size on their roofs, verandas, and premises. Deep lighting will be carried out in public squares, Darbar Square, and households.

Additionally, government initiatives include organizing blood donation programs with the support of governmental and non-governmental organizations in all districts. The government has decided to distribute educational and sports materials to schools with adequate facilities, benefiting students with varying capacities in different districts.

On the day of the event, the Nepali Army will perform a ceremony at Tundikhel, including the raising of the national flag, firing of cannons, and an aerial display by helicopters marking “National Democracy Day”.

Furthermore, a formal ceremony will be held at Tundikhel on National Democracy Day, where elected representatives, government officials, security personnel, representatives from community organizations, and distinguished personalities from civil society and the general public are invited.

The committee has decided to broadcast patriotic songs on Radio Nepal and Nepal Television during the occasion, with requests extended to other radio and television channels for broadcasting. Additionally, foreign missions, diplomatic missions, and commercial offices abroad have been approved to conduct programs related to National Democracy Day.

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will distribute promotional materials emphasizing Nepal’s distinctive identity and specialties to Nepali diplomatic missions and consulates abroad.

The committee has also appointed State Chief Ministers as coordinators for the State-level ‘National Democracy Day Celebration Committee’ and formed ‘National Democracy Day Program Organizing Committees’ at the local level. Various events, including cleanliness drives, morning processions, sports, lectures, literary discussions, cultural programs, and diverse exhibitions, have been planned nationwide.

A meeting held outside the Kathmandu Valley in the district headquarters will coordinate the organization of the National Democracy Day program, involving the chief of the district coordination committee and the mayor of the respective local municipality. The programs include cleanliness campaigns, morning processions, sports, lectures, literary discussions, cultural programs, and various exhibitions, adding a vibrant touch to the celebration of National Democracy Day.
