Kathmandu: The Constitutional Council has recommended Prakashman Singh Raut for the position of Chief Justice. The decision was made during a meeting held on Monday at 5 PM at the new secretariat of the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar.

A meeting last Friday had also discussed the recommendation but had failed to reach a conclusion. Current Chief Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha is set to retire on 18 Ashoj. The newly recommended Chief Justice will undergo a parliamentary hearing as required by law.

Previously, the Judicial Council had submitted a list of eight potential candidates for the role to the Constitutional Council, with Raut being recommended due to his seniority.

Three other positions, including at the Election Commission, National Natural Resources and Fiscal Commission, and the National Inclusive Commission, also remain to be filled by the Council.
