Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Inspects Damaged Road

Kathmandu: A team from the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport has inspected key sections of the BP Highway, which was severely damaged by recent floods and landslides. On Wednesday, officials from the ministry conducted an inspection of the highway, which had been affected by flooding a few days earlier. The inspection team, led by Secretary Keshav Kumar Sharma, included the Director General of the Department of Roads, Ram Hari Pokhrel, Chief of the Federal Road Supervision and Monitoring Office in Kathmandu, Subharaj Neupane, and representatives from the Nepal Army’s Development Construction Directorate, including Dharmendra Kumar Jha. The team conducted an aerial inspection up to Khurkot Bridge.

The inspection followed discussions between Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal and Defense Minister Manveer Rai regarding collaborative efforts between the two ministries to expedite road repair and reconstruction. After the talks, the technical team and officials were deployed to assess the damage in the affected areas.

Following the inspection, the team reported that the highway had suffered significant damage and emphasized the need to mobilize additional resources, technical personnel, and manpower to accelerate repair and reconstruction efforts.

A press conference is scheduled for this afternoon, where the ministry will provide updates on the extent of the flood and landslide damage, current efforts to reopen the road, and future plans for restoration.
