Hot Air Balloon Flights Resume in Pokhara After Monsoon Break: Fees and Tips for Adventurers

Pokhara: After a break due to the monsoon season, hot air balloon flights have resumed in Pokhara this week. This adventurous activity has become increasingly popular among thrill-seekers, according to Bikram Bade, Chairman of Balloon Nepal.

The company operates flights that reach up to 9,000 feet, offering stunning views of the Annapurna and Machhapuchhre mountain ranges, a full view of Phewa Lake, and iconic spots like the Pumdikot Mahadev statue, Sarangkot, and the Pokhara Valley. Passengers can also witness paragliders taking off from Mandredhunga.

Currently, the company has two balloons in operation, piloted by Cleto from Spain and Harvey Alexander from the UK. The flights take off from Pame in Pokhara and are available twice daily: from 5 AM to 9 AM, and again from 3 PM to 6 PM. Children as young as three can also experience the flights.

Two balloons are in operation: one can carry eight passengers plus the pilot, while the other can accommodate up to twelve passengers plus the pilot.

To celebrate the upcoming Christmas and New Year 2025, Balloon Nepal is organizing an international balloon festival in Pokhara from December 24 to January 1.

How Much Does It Cost?
For Nepalese tourists, the hot air balloon ride costs NPR 11,000. Tourists from SAARC countries will be charged USD 120, while those from other countries will pay USD 150. The fee includes breakfast, round-trip transport between Lakeside and Pame, photos and videos, and a certificate. Private flights are also available for those who wish to reserve an entire balloon.

Tips for a Comfortable Experience
Since mornings can be chilly, passengers are advised to wear warm clothing. Sports shoes are recommended for a more comfortable experience during the flight, rather than heels or other types of footwear.
