Kathmandu: The monsoon has begun its withdrawal from Nepal, starting with the far western region. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the monsoon has officially exited from Sudurpaschim Province, as well as parts of Karnali and the western regions of Lumbini Province.
In its Sunday bulletin, the Meteorological Forecasting Division stated, “The monsoon winds are weakening, and it is expected that the monsoon will fully withdraw from the remaining parts of Nepal within a few days.” With the weakening of monsoon winds, the possibility of heavy rainfall across the country has significantly reduced, except for isolated and light showers.
The average date for the complete withdrawal of the monsoon from Nepal is October 2, while its onset typically occurs around June 13. The monsoon enters Nepal with easterly winds, which are gradually displaced by westerly winds as the season ends.
Once the monsoon fully withdraws, the impact of westerly winds takes over. However, local winds continue to influence the weather across the country. Following the monsoon season, the post-monsoon period begins, during which western and local winds dominate, but the likelihood of heavy rain is much lower compared to the monsoon season.
