Kathmandu: The government of Nepal has formed a High-Level Economic Reform Recommendation Commission to provide necessary suggestions for steering the country’s economy in the right direction. The commission was formed following a proposal from the Ministry of Finance during a cabinet meeting held on Monday.

The five-member commission will be chaired by former Finance Secretary Rameshwar Khanal, and includes prominent economists and experts. The members of the commission are Dr. Prakash Kumar Shrestha, a member of the National Planning Commission; Prof. Dr. Ram Prasad Gyawali, Head of the Department of Economics at Tribhuvan University; economist Dr. Bishwo Gautam, and Dr. Kalpana Khanal, a senior researcher at the Policy Research Institute.

The commission is expected to consult with the private sector and various other stakeholders in the economy as needed.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel expressed his confidence that the commission will engage in extensive consultations with all concerned parties to provide recommendations that will help align Nepal’s economy with the changing times and ensure sustainable progress.

The formation of this commission was included in the Ministry of Finance’s 100-day action plan. The commission will develop its own procedures and methodology for carrying out its mandate.
