Kathmandu: The teaser for the Nepali film Karsang has been officially released. The production team unveiled the teaser today, offering a glimpse into the film’s compelling narrative.
The teaser begins with a traditional shamanistic setup in a village, portraying themes of poverty, deprivation, childlessness, and the strain these challenges bring to marital relationships. It also highlights the rural custom of managing life through debts and loans, and the struggles of parents unable to fulfill their children’s expectations, such as buying a new set of clothes.
Karsang delves into the social stigma faced by individuals due to poverty and how it impacts relationships and societal standing. The teaser hints at a poignant story about a couple blaming each other for their inability to have children, reflecting the harsh realities of rural life.
The film marks the directorial debut of Yam Sherpa, who has also penned the story. Based on the Sherpa community’s culture, Karsang is set to release on January 10, 2025 (Poush 26, 2081).
The movie features a stellar cast, including Dayahang Rai, debut actress Srijana Ninglekhu, Jeetu Nepal, Diya Maskey, and Buddhi Tamang, alongside supporting actors such as Srishti Gautam, Doma Hyolmo, Prem Lopchan, and others. Child artists Rashi Limbu and Sohan Thapa also play key roles.
The film’s music, written by Hark Saud and DP Khanal, is composed by Manoj Thapa Magar, SD Yogi, and Bisho Dong, with vocals by notable artists such as Sunita Thegim and Subani Moktan.
Produced under the banners of Yarsa Films and Purushottam Pradhan Films, the movie’s cinematography and production are led by Purushottam Pradhan, who also serves as the producer. Govinda Bohara is the co-producer, and Angchiring Sherpa is the executive producer. The line producer is Birendra Shahi.
The film features editing by Bhupendra Adhikari, color grading by Manoranjan Shrestha, makeup by Raju Tamang, choreography by Abhi Lama, and sound design by Mukesh Shah. The teaser and trailer are crafted by Shahil Khan, with key direction support from Sudeep Kunwar, Ram Kumar Shrestha, and Yogendra Karki.
International distribution rights have been secured by Hulya Events’ Suman Parajuli and Somlal Thokar, while RR Films will handle the distribution in Nepal.
