Kathmandu: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has canceled four contracts with Sunita and Kabita Construction Pvt. Ltd. for failing to complete rural electrification projects on time. The projects, aimed at enhancing electricity distribution in various municipalities, faced significant delays despite repeated warnings and extensions.
The contracts included projects in Dang, Udaypurgadhi Rural Municipality (Udaypur), Belaka Municipality (Udaypur), and Bheriganga Municipality (Surkhet). These projects were part of the NEA’s initiative to expand the 11/0.4/0.23 KV electrical distribution network to rural areas under its Community Rural Electrification Program.
The NEA cited non-compliance and lack of satisfactory progress as the primary reasons for the contract termination. Sunita and Kabita Construction repeatedly failed to adhere to deadlines, even after written and verbal reminders.
The cancellations were made in accordance with the Public Procurement Act 2063 and the NEA’s Financial Administration Regulations 2068, which allow for termination in cases of prolonged non-compliance and unsatisfactory performance.
