Inter-School National Skating Competition to be Held in Kathmandu

Kathmandu: The Gyan Sanskar Inter-School National Skating Competition is set to take place in Kathmandu on February 10 (Magh 26). The event will feature 200 young skaters aged 4 to 16, according to Neelam Baniya Badu, Principal of Gyan Sanskar International School.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Principal Badu stated that schools from all seven provinces have been invited to participate. “As skating is a relatively new sport in Nepal, children have shown great interest in it. This enthusiasm has encouraged us to organize the competition for the second consecutive year. We plan to continue hosting it in the coming years,” she said.

The competition aims to identify talented young skaters, with top performers earning opportunities to compete in international skating tournaments. The organizers expect widespread participation from schools across the country.

The event is being jointly organized by Gyan Sanskar International School and the Nepal Skating and Skateboarding Association, which operates under the National Sports Council of Nepal. Winners will receive trophies, medals, and certificates, while second and third-place skaters will be awarded medals and certificates. All participants will receive certificates of participation.

“We are confident that this competition will encourage school-level skating across Nepal,” said Saty Thapa, General Secretary of the Nepal Skating and Skateboarding Association. He emphasized the growing popularity of skating among Nepali youth and stated that their goal is to prepare Nepali skaters for international competitions through such events.
