“Currently, we are operating in a single shift, but within a week, we will start surgeries in two shifts,” Dr. Gautam said.
Enhanced Laboratory Capacity
Dr. Gautam also revealed that the hospital has expanded its laboratory capacity by adding new equipment, reducing the need for patients to seek lab tests elsewhere.
“We have strengthened our lab facilities to ensure that patients no longer have to go outside for necessary tests. We are also studying the list of tests that are still being outsourced and planning to add the required equipment and workforce accordingly,” he added.
Additionally, the hospital has increased its daily MRI scan capacity from 25 to 32, allowing 200 more patients per month to access the service.
Improved Sanitation Measures
Bir Hospital has often faced criticism for its poor sanitation, particularly regarding unclean restrooms. Addressing these concerns, Dr. Gautam stated that efforts are underway to improve hygiene conditions.
“We have deployed monitoring teams to assess and enhance cleanliness standards. The results will be visible soon,” he assured.
Dr. Gautam took charge as the Acting Director of Bir Hospital a week ago, following an interim appointment by Health Minister Pradeep Paudel until a new director is appointed. Minister Paudel had instructed the hospital to deliver tangible improvements, and Dr. Gautam stated that the reforms are already in progress.
