CTEVT to Admit Students Based on SEE Grades Starting 2025

Kathmandu, May 19, 2025 — In a major policy shift aimed at simplifying the admissions process, Nepal’s Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) has announced that it will now admit students into its pre-diploma, diploma, and certificate-level programs based solely on their Secondary Education Examination (SEE) results, starting from the academic year 2082/83 (2025/26).

The new system eliminates the need for entrance examinations, which had previously been a requirement alongside SEE grades for admission into CTEVT institutions. According to officials, the decision was made to reduce the mental and financial burden on students and families.

Digital Application System Introduced

To facilitate the change, CTEVT has also launched a new online application portal. This platform will enable students to apply for various technical and vocational programs directly, making the process more accessible and transparent.

“This will reduce administrative workload and make the admissions process smoother for everyone involved,” said Dr. Kul Prasad Serchan, Member Secretary of CTEVT.

Equity Measures for Community and Private Schools

To address the disparity between community and private schools, the council has decided to implement a weighted grading system. Students from community (public) schools will receive an additional 1.0 point to their GPA, while students from private schools will receive a 0.85-point boost. This adjustment aims to ensure fairness across diverse educational backgrounds.

Efficiency and Accessibility

The revised admissions process is expected to save time and costs for both the students and the institutions. Officials believe the SEE-based selection will make technical education more inclusive, while improving enrollment transparency and operational efficiency.

CTEVT oversees over 1,200 technical education providers across Nepal and plays a crucial role in producing skilled manpower for various sectors.
