Five-Year Limitation Proposal Removed from Corruption Prevention Bill

Kathmandu: The five-year statute of limitations proposed in the Corruption Prevention Bill, 2059, has been officially removed by the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee. On Friday, the committee unanimously passed the decision to eliminate the proposed time limitation.

During the committee’s discussion, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak expressed the government’s willingness to remove the five-year limitation, which had been a contentious issue. Following the government’s readiness to withdraw its own proposal, committee members expressed their gratitude to the minister.

The five-year statute of limitations had been a critical and controversial element of the bill. The committee’s chairperson declared, “The proposal to remove the five-year statute of limitations from Clause 16 of the Corruption Prevention Bill has been unanimously approved.” The chairperson also indicated that future discussions would focus on other aspects of the bill.
