Kathmandu: The Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation has announced a series of decisive measures in response to the heavy rainfall that has caused disruptions across the country. In an emergency meeting chaired by Minister Badri Prasad Pandey, the ministry has outlined a rescue and support plan to assist tourists and passengers stranded in various parts of the country due to weather-related challenges.

One of the primary decisions made was the immediate launch of coordinated rescue operations for tourists stranded in remote areas. The Department of Tourism and the Nepal Tourism Board will handle the rescue efforts, with designated contact points, including Director Rakesh Gurung (9856040976) and Director Nandini Lahe Thapa (9851022912), who will ensure smooth communication and coordination during the rescue efforts.

Additionally, the ministry has ordered the effective mobilization of Tourist Police to aid in rescue operations. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rit Bahadur Singh has been appointed to lead these efforts and can be contacted at 9855090486 for emergency assistance. This move is expected to strengthen the safety net for tourists during the ongoing natural disaster.

To alleviate the challenges faced by passengers missing their international flights due to internal flight delays, the ministry has coordinated with the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority (CAAN) and airlines to reschedule tickets without extra charges. This will help affected passengers avoid financial losses and ensure that they can reach their destinations once flights resume.

The ministry has also arranged for discounted rates for helicopter rescue flights to facilitate timely evacuations from areas that are difficult to access. Furthermore, helicopters from various airlines, along with personnel and equipment from the Rafting Association, are on standby to provide maximum support during the rescue operations. The Rafting Association’s efforts in aiding rescue missions will continue to receive strong support from the ministry.

In terms of flight operations, the ministry has confirmed that all airports in Nepal are fully operational. Once weather conditions improve, international and domestic flights will resume at full capacity to minimize disruptions. Regular updates on weather and flight conditions will also be provided to keep the public informed.

To support tourists stranded due to the inclement weather, the Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN) has pledged to provide hotel and dining services at regular and discounted rates, ensuring their comfort and safety. The ministry has also urged all concerned bodies to remain on high alert and maintain constant coordination with the Ministry to manage disaster risks effectively.
