Chief Justice Raut Pledges Objective Criteria for Judicial Appointments

Kathmandu: Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut has reaffirmed his commitment to appointing judges based on qualifications, competence, and objective evaluation. Speaking at a congratulatory and felicitation program organized by the Former Judges Forum, Raut emphasized the need for transparency in the judiciary’s operations.

He urged media professionals to convey judicial proceedings clearly to the public, ensuring that citizens understand how court activities are conducted.

Top Bahadur Singh, Chairperson of the Former Judges Forum Nepal, called for an immediate and lawful intervention in the judicial appointment process, emphasizing the need to appoint capable, qualified, and honest individuals. He also highlighted the importance of resolving disputes surrounding the Judicial Council Regulations before appointing judges to higher courts. Singh further stressed that cases of national importance and sensitive disputes should be prioritized and resolved swiftly.

At the event, Yubaraj Subedi, Secretary of the Former Judges Forum and a former judge, advocated for promoting reconciliation at all court levels to reduce case backlogs. The program was attended by former judges of the Supreme Court and high courts.
