Nepali Congress Delegation, Led by Sujata Koirala, Holds High-Level Talks in Chengdu

Chengdu, China – A Nepali Congress delegation, led by senior leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala, held significant discussions with top leaders of China’s Sichuan province in Chengdu. The talks focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in agriculture, education, health, communication, and tourism.

Congress leader Burma Lama, who was part of the delegation, stated that the meeting aimed at enhancing mutual goodwill and cooperation between Nepal and China.

In her formal address, Koirala emphasized China’s role as a trusted neighbor and assured that both Nepali Congress and the Nepal government remain attentive to China’s concerns. She also expressed gratitude for China’s continuous support in Nepal’s development.

Strengthening Nepal-China Political Ties

According to delegation members Lama, Kiran Yadav, and Devraj Chalise, the meeting was crucial in further strengthening ties between the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Nepali Congress.

The 15-member Nepali Congress delegation engaged in discussions with eight senior CPC leaders from Sichuan, including:

  • Pubu Dunzhu, Standing Committee Member, CPC Sichuan
  • Zhang Fen, Director of the Sichuan CPC Foreign Affairs Department

Cultural and Development Cooperation

Chinese leaders expressed keen interest in advancing cultural cooperation alongside developmental collaboration with Nepal.

Before the meeting, the Nepali delegation visited Sichuan’s renowned museums and cultural landmarks. Koirala’s team will stay in Chengdu for four days before heading to Beijing, where further high-level talks with Chinese leaders are scheduled.
