MP Ganendra Shahi Alleges Secret Deal Between Top Leaders on TRC and Kulman Ghising’s Removal

Kathmandu: Member of Parliament Ganendra Shahi has claimed that the removal of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Executive Director Kulman Ghising was part of a broader political agreement among top leaders.

In a Facebook status posted on Monday, Shahi alleged that a secret meeting held at Singha Durbar between three top leaders, including Former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ reached an understanding to remove Ghising while ensuring that cases of human rights violations and extrajudicial killings involving Maoists would not be prosecuted under the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) bill.

“Comrade Prachanda is indeed clever. He has exchanged TRC with Kulman. In today’s secret meeting at Singha Durbar, the top three leaders agreed to remove Kulman Ghising and pass the TRC bill unchanged, ensuring that the government will not arrest or prosecute Maoists involved in grave human rights violations and extrajudicial killings,” Shahi wrote.

As part of the effort to conclude transitional justice, a search committee is reportedly being formed, with members nominated from key political parties. According to Shahi, the committee will include Dr. Khimlal Devkota and Shakti Bahadur Basnet from the Maoist party, Agni Kharel from UML, and Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak from the Nepali Congress.

Shahi’s allegations have sparked political debate, raising questions about the transparency of Nepal’s transitional justice process and the circumstances surrounding Ghising’s removal.
