Kathmandu: Maoist Center Chairman and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has strongly criticized the government’s decision to remove Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Executive Director Kulman Ghising.
In a statement, Prachanda recalled that his leadership had appointed Ghising as NEA chief during a period of severe load-shedding in Nepal, recognizing his expertise in the energy sector. He credited Ghising’s capability and the government’s joint efforts for successfully eliminating power cuts and illuminating the country.
He alleged that Ghising had been repeatedly pressured with clarifications and unfair treatment for a long time, particularly because he had insisted on recovering outstanding dues owed by consumers.
“I have learned from media reports that the government has dismissed Kulman Ghising through a Cabinet decision today. I hope this news turns out to be false. If true, this move is completely wrong and objectionable. I strongly condemn this decision, which appears to be driven by arrogance stemming from a two-thirds majority in Parliament,” Prachanda stated.
His remarks add to the growing political controversy surrounding Ghising’s removal, raising concerns about the government’s motives and the future of Nepal’s energy sector leadership.
