Kathmandu: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has issued a directive requiring all pet owners to implant microchips in their dogs and cats and register them at their respective ward offices. The decision comes in response to increasing complaints about lost, stolen, and abandoned pets in the city.
KMC has also made microchipping mandatory for individuals and organizations involved in the sale and distribution of dogs and cats within or from the metropolitan area. Sellers must ensure that all pets are microchipped before being transferred to new owners.
The initiative aims to enhance pet identification, prevent abandonment, and promote responsible pet ownership in Kathmandu. Pet owners are urged to comply with the new regulation to avoid penalties and ensure the safety of their animals.
