Kathmandu:
Nabil Bank Limited has introduced an innovative savings account, ‘Nabil Digo Bachat Khata,’ aimed at fostering sustainable development and reducing carbon emissions in Nepal. This groundbreaking initiative aligns with Nepal’s ambitious goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2045 while contributing to global sustainability efforts.
Under this unique savings scheme, Nabil Bank will allocate an additional 0.5% per annum of the total deposit amount in ‘Nabil Digo Bachat Khata’ toward projects designed to curb carbon emissions. The bank plans to invest these funds in impactful programs such as reforestation and tree plantation, renewable energy promotion, waste management, clean energy and water projects, and other initiatives supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
As part of its eco-conscious features, customers maintaining a semi-annual average balance of NPR 50,000 will have a tree planted in their name as a one-time commemorative gesture. “This savings account not only offers financial benefits but also empowers our customers to contribute directly to environmental conservation and carbon reduction efforts,” said a Nabil Bank spokesperson.
Key Features and Benefits
The ‘Nabil Digo Bachat Khata’ requires a minimum opening balance of NPR 10,000 and targets individuals across all age groups, Non-Resident Nepalis (NRNs), and non-profit organizations. To promote a paperless banking culture, account holders maintaining the minimum balance will enjoy free lifetime access to Nabil Bank’s digital platforms, including nBank and nBank Web.
Beyond its environmental focus, the account offers attractive financial perks:
Free debit and credit cards for the first year.
A 25% discount on annual locker charges.
